The 6th MOIRA Technical Workshop at Cranfield University, UK

From August 27 to August 30, 2024, the H2020 MOIRA Project successfully hosted a comprehensive training and workshop event at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs), business leaders, and project participants convened for an educational program of talks, workshops, and technical training.

August 27th marked the start of the event with a General Assembly (GA) meeting and presentations by ESRs, who gave valuable input from mentors and peers on their research progress. Seven thought-provoking talks were given during the day, with several ESRs contributing virtually.

The Aviation Digital Technology Management (ADTM) event took centre stage on August 28. Presenters of ADTM projects and industry partners, such as Boeing, BAe Systems, TUI Airlines, and EasyJet, participated in lively conversations. An inside look at cutting edge aviation technologies was given during a tour of the DARTeC (Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre).

On August 29, the third day, lectures and practical instruction took place. Nico began by giving a brief overview of Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM). Topics like sensors, NDT imaging techniques for structural inspection, and the use of digital twins in predictive maintenance were discussed in the sessions. An educational tour of Cranfield’s cutting-edge labs and facilities marked the end of the day.

Six researchers presented their work in another round of ESR presentations on the last day, August 30. A networking lunch marked the end of the session, giving attendees a chance to consider the insights they had learnt and the future prospects for collaboration.

Overall, the MOIRA Training at Cranfield University advanced the project’s objectives in aviation maintenance and inverse problems by offering a useful forum for information sharing, professional growth, and industry interaction.
